Which smart TV platform do you have?
What you can install depends on the TV’s operating system, not just the brand:
| TV | Platform | Best route |
|---|---|---|
| Samsung | Tizen | Player from the Samsung Apps store (this guide) |
| LG | webOS | Player from the LG Content Store (this guide) |
| Sony, TCL, Hisense with Google TV | Android-based | Follow the Android TV / Google TV guide |
| TVs with Fire TV built-in | Fire OS | Follow the Fire TV setup steps |
| Roku TVs, Vizio SmartCast, Hisense VIDAA | Closed app stores | Plug in a streaming stick — far more player choice |
Samsung (Tizen): step by step
- Open the app storePress Home on the remote, go to Apps, and select the search icon.
- Install the playerSearch for the player your representative recommends and select Install. Tizen players differ from Android ones, so don’t look for Android-only apps here.
- Link your playlistMany Tizen players don’t ask you to type the login on the TV. Instead they show your TV’s MAC address or a short code on screen; you enter that, plus your login details, on the player’s website from your phone or computer.
- ReloadExit the app completely and open it again. The channel list and TV guide usually appear within a minute.
Some smart TV players are free; others charge a one-time activation fee after a short trial. Check the app’s own page before you install so there are no surprises.
LG (webOS): step by step
- Open the LG Content StorePress Home and open LG Content Store (called Apps on newer webOS versions).
- Search and installSearch for the recommended player and install it.
- Sign in or activateDepending on the player, either type your Xtream Codes details (server URL, username, password) or use the MAC-address/code activation on the player’s website, as on Samsung.
- Restart the appClose it fully and reopen it so the playlist and guide load.
Built-in TV app or a streaming stick?
| App on the TV | Streaming stick | |
|---|---|---|
| Extra hardware | None | A stick in an HDMI port |
| Player choice | Limited to the TV’s store | Much wider (Android TV, Fire TV) |
| Speed on older TVs | Can feel slow | Usually faster menus and channel changes |
| Remote | Your TV remote | A second remote (some sticks can control the TV) |
If your TV is more than a few years old, or its store doesn’t have a player you like, a stick is usually the better experience. See the Firestick guide or the Google TV guide.
Smart TV troubleshooting
The player isn’t in the app store
App stores differ by country and model year. Make sure the TV’s region is set to the United States and its software is up to date (Settings › Support › Software Update on Samsung; Settings › Support › Software Update on newer LG models, or General › About this TV on older ones).
The playlist won’t load after activation
Double-check the MAC address (letters and numbers, no spaces), resubmit on the player’s website, then fully close and reopen the app.
Picture freezes or stutters
Most TVs have an Ethernet port — a cable to your router is the single best fix. More steps in our guide to fixing buffering.
Questions
Can I install TiviMate on a Samsung or LG TV?
No. TiviMate is an Android app, and Samsung’s Tizen and LG’s webOS can’t run Android apps. Use a player from the TV’s own store, or a Google TV or Fire TV stick.
Why does the app need my TV’s MAC address?
It’s how many smart TV players link a playlist to your specific TV without making you type long URLs with the remote.
Will IPTV work on an older smart TV?
Often, but older models get fewer app updates and can feel slow. If the player isn’t available or performs poorly, a streaming stick is the simplest fix.
Does it work on Roku?
Roku’s channel store has limited support for IPTV players. A Fire TV or Google TV stick plugged into the same TV is usually the better option.
