Before you start
- Update tvOS under Settings › System › Software Updates. Current IPTV players often require a recent tvOS version.
- Know your model. The Apple TV 4K (3rd generation) Wi-Fi model has no Ethernet port; the Wi-Fi + Ethernet model and earlier Apple TV 4K / HD models do. Wired is more stable for live TV.
- Have your login ready — Xtream Codes details (server URL, username, password) or an M3U link, sent by your representative.
Choosing a player
The tvOS App Store has several players that support both Xtream Codes and M3U playlists — for example UHF, IPTVX and iPlayTV. Some are free with optional upgrades; others are paid. They differ mainly in the TV guide layout, favorites and how they sync between devices.
App availability changes, so your representative will confirm a player that works well with your account before you buy one.

Typing on Apple TV is easier with your iPhone: when a text field appears, a keyboard notification pops up on nearby iPhones signed in to the same Apple Account. Some players can also sync playlists through iCloud, so you add the login on iPhone once and it appears on Apple TV.
On iPhone and iPad
Many tvOS players are universal apps, so you install the same one from the App Store and sign in the same way. You can also AirPlay from your iPhone to an Apple TV, but running the player directly on Apple TV gives smoother playback for live sports.
Each device you watch on at the same time uses a screen from your plan — Start includes 1, Flow up to 2, House up to 4. Compare them on the plans section.
Apple TV settings that improve live TV
- Match Frame Rate: under Settings › Video and Audio › Match Content, turning on Match Frame Rate lets Apple TV switch to the broadcast’s frame rate, which reduces judder in fast-moving sports.
- Match Dynamic Range (same menu) avoids washed-out colors on channels that aren’t HDR.
- Use Ethernet if your model has a port; otherwise keep Apple TV close to the router on 5 GHz Wi-Fi.
If channels still pause or drop, work through our buffering checklist.
Questions
Can I sideload an IPTV app on Apple TV?
No. tvOS only installs apps from the App Store, so you’ll use one of the App Store players that supports Xtream Codes or M3U.
Does it work on the older Apple TV HD?
Usually, as long as the player you choose still supports its tvOS version. Check the requirements on the app’s App Store page.
Can I use the same player on my iPhone?
Many players are universal apps for Apple TV, iPhone and iPad. Each device watching at the same time counts as one screen on your plan.
Which player should I pick?
Tell your representative you’re on Apple TV and they’ll recommend one that works well with your account, before you pay for any app.
