Troubleshooting

IPTV buffering or freezing? Fixes for Indian homes

Buffering is rarely about the plan you pay for. In most homes it comes down to a router in the wrong place, a TV on a weak 2.4 GHz signal, a device that needs a restart, or too many phones streaming at once. These fixes are in the order that solves the most cases.

Fixes, in order

1. Restart the router and the TV device

Switch both off at the plug for 30 seconds, start the router first, and wait until its internet light is steady before turning on the TV. After a power cut, routers sometimes come back with a poor connection until they’re restarted. A small UPS for the router keeps it running through short outages.

2. Test the speed on the TV

Use the TV’s browser or a speed-test app — a test on your phone next to the router says little about the TV. As a guide, Netflix suggests 5 Mbps for Full HD and 15 Mbps for 4K for each screen.

3. Use a LAN cable or 5 GHz

A cable from the router to the TV is the most reliable fix. If that’s not possible, connect to the router’s 5 GHz network; 2.4 GHz reaches further but is slower and crowded in apartment buildings.

4. Move the router

Routers fixed to a wall in a corner or behind a cupboard lose signal through concrete walls. A central, raised spot — or a mesh system or extender near the TV — makes a big difference.

5. Clear the player cache

  • Android TV / Google TV / Mi TV Stick: Settings › Apps › [player] › Clear cache
  • Fire TV: Settings › Applications › Manage Installed Applications › [player] › Clear cache
  • Samsung / LG: close the app fully; reinstall if needed

6. Adjust player settings

Switch between hardware and software decoding, and choose a bigger buffer if available.

7. Reduce the load during matches

Phones auto-updating apps or backing up photos compete with the TV. Pause big downloads while you watch.

8. Choose HD instead of 4K

If a channel comes in several qualities, a stable HD stream is better than 4K that keeps stopping.

9. Report the details

If one channel still stutters, send your representative the channel name, the time and your device.

Questions

Why does IPTV buffer during big matches?

More people at home — and on the wider network — are online at the same time. A wired TV and fewer simultaneous downloads help most.

Is a 40 or 50 Mbps plan enough?

Usually, yes, for a few HD screens. If it still buffers, the Wi-Fi inside your home is the more likely problem.

Why does it buffer after a power cut?

Routers can reconnect with a poor connection. Restart the router once power is stable, or keep it on a small UPS.

Does clearing the cache delete my login?

No. Clearing the cache keeps your login; “Clear data” removes it.
