Is your TV Android TV or Google TV?
If your TV has the Google Play Store, it runs Android TV or Google TV and this guide is for you. Xiaomi TVs often show Xiaomi’s own home screen (PatchWall) on top, but Google Play is still underneath — look for it under Apps.
Samsung (Tizen) and LG (webOS) TVs don’t run Android apps — use the Samsung and LG guide instead.
Install a player from Google Play
- Open Google PlayOn Google TV go to Apps › Search for apps; on Android TV and the Mi TV Stick open the Google Play Store.
- Install the playerSearch for the player your representative recommends — TiviMate is a popular choice built for TV remotes — and install it.
- Sign inPick Xtream Codes and type the server URL, username and password — or paste the M3U link instead.
- Wait for the guideThe first load downloads the channel list and TV guide. Give it a minute.
Typing long links with the remote is slow. Many TVs let you use the Google TV app on your phone as a keyboard.
If the player isn’t on Google Play
- Enable developer modeSettings › System › About (or Device Preferences › About) and select Android TV OS build seven times.
- Install DownloaderSearch Google Play for Downloader (by AFTVnews) and install it.
- Allow installsOpen Downloader, enter the link your representative sends and, when asked, set Downloader to Allowed for unknown apps.
- Install and sign inConfirm the install, open the player and add your login.
Only install files from a source you trust. Google Play Protect may warn about apps from outside the store — that’s normal for sideloaded apps.
Device notes
| Device | Worth knowing |
|---|---|
| Mi TV Stick | Limited storage — keep few apps installed and clear the player’s cache now and then. Wi-Fi only. |
| Xiaomi / OnePlus / TCL TVs | Install straight on the TV; use the Ethernet port if the router is nearby. |
| Sony Google TV | Smooth for large playlists; turn on frame-rate matching if offered for sports. |
| Generic Android boxes | Quality varies; boxes without Google certification may not have Google Play. |
Settings that help
- Clear cache: Settings › Apps › [player] › Clear cache fixes many freezes and keeps your login.
- Decoder: sound but no picture? Try the player’s other decoder option (hardware or software).
- 5 GHz Wi-Fi: if your router is dual-band, connect the TV to the 5 GHz network.

Questions
Does IPTV work on the Mi TV Stick?
Yes. It runs Android TV, so you can install a player from Google Play. Keep storage free, as the stick has little of it.
My Xiaomi TV shows PatchWall — where is Google Play?
PatchWall is Xiaomi’s home screen on top of Android TV or Google TV. Open the Apps section to find Google Play.
Is TiviMate free?
It has a free version and a paid premium tier. The free version is enough to set up and test.
Do I need to sideload anything?
Usually not. Sideloading is only needed if the recommended player isn’t on Google Play.
