How to watch IPTV on your smart TV in Australia

How you watch IPTV on a smart TV depends on the system inside it, not the brand on the front. Samsung uses Tizen, LG uses webOS, many Hisense sets run VIDAA, and TCL and Sony use Google TV. Find yours below and follow the matching steps.

Brands switch systems between model years, so check Settings › Support › About this TV (or the equivalent “About” screen) rather than going by the badge.

Samsung (Tizen)

  1. Open AppsPress Home, go to Apps and select the search icon.
  2. Install the playerFind the player your representative suggests and choose Install. Tizen can’t run Android apps, so Android-only players won’t be listed.
  3. Activate itMany Tizen players show a MAC address or short code on screen. Enter it with your login on the player’s website from your phone or computer.
  4. Restart the appClose it fully and reopen it; channels and the guide should appear within a minute.

LG (webOS)

  1. Open the storePress Home and open the LG Content Store (called Apps on newer webOS).
  2. Install and sign inInstall the recommended player, then either type your Xtream Codes login or use MAC-address activation on the player’s website.
  3. ReopenClose and reopen the app so the playlist loads.

Hisense and TCL

Google TV models (most TCL sets, some Hisense) work like any Google TV device: open Apps › Search for apps, install the player from Google Play and sign in with your Xtream Codes details or M3U link.

VIDAA models (many Hisense sets) have their own, smaller app store. If the player you need isn’t there, a Fire TV Stick in a spare HDMI port is the quick fix — and usually feels faster on older TVs too.

Some smart TV players are free and some charge a one-off activation fee after a short trial. Check the app’s own page before you install.

Fixes for common smart TV problems

Can’t find the player

App stores vary by country and model year. Make sure the TV’s region is Australia and its software is up to date.

Playlist won’t load after activation

Re-enter the MAC address carefully (no spaces), submit it again on the player’s website and restart the app.

Stuttering picture

Most TVs have an Ethernet port — plug a cable into the modem or a mesh node if you can. More in our NBN buffering guide.

Questions

Does TiviMate work on Samsung or LG TVs?

No. TiviMate is an Android app; Samsung’s Tizen and LG’s webOS can’t run Android apps. A Google TV set, Fire TV Stick or Google TV device can.

My Hisense doesn’t have Google Play — what now?

It probably runs VIDAA. Check its app store for a player; if there isn’t a suitable one, plug in a streaming stick.

Why does the app want my TV’s MAC address?

Many smart TV players use it to link your playlist to your TV without typing long links with the remote.

Will it work on an older smart TV?

Often, but older models get fewer app updates and can be sluggish. A streaming stick is the simplest upgrade.
